Arlowene "Julia" Rhodaberger
Olean-Arlowene "Julia" Rhodaberger, 101, a long time resident of the Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean and formerly of Eden Heights, passed away Monday (November 30, 2009).
Born June 5, 1908 in Franklinville, she was the daughter of Bruce and Dora King Jewell.
Ms. Rhodaberger was a 1928 graduate of Tenbroek Academy in Franklinville and was a former member of the United Presbyterian Church and the former Dutch Treat Club in Franklinville. She attended Bradford Nursing School from 1928-1931 and received her RN degree. She was employed at Bradford Regional Hospital from 1932-1940. Ms. Rhodaberger then worked for 13 years at the Margaret Webster Junior College where she helped establish the health program. Later, she worked for five years at the National Cathedral School for Girls in Washington, DC before retiring in 1973.
Ms. Rhodaberger was a member of the College Nurses Association and a former member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC. She formerly attended Hinsdale United Methodist Church and she loved nursing and playing bridge.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.
She is predeceased by a brother Gordon Jewell on March 31, 1996 and a niece Sharon Jewell.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, today, from 2-5pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday (December 3, 2009) at 11am, at the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Carl Schultz, pastor of Hinsdale United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at the Hinsdale Cemetery in Maplehurst NY.
Memorials if desired may be made to a Children's Organization of the donor's choice.
