Obituary of William O'Brien

"Loving husband, father and grandfather" Allegany-- William E. O'Brien of 49 E. Main Street, passed away Sunday (November 22, 2009) at the Olean General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born March 3, 1935 in Killbuck, NY, he was the son of Thomas F. and Hazel Cross O'Brien. On October 13, 1956 in Little Valley, he married Jenny Speroni, they shared 54 years of marriage together. Mr. O'Brien was a graduate of Salamanca High School and was enlisted with the U. S. Navy from 1953-1956. He had been a resident of Allegany since 1956 and was employed for Dresser Rand for 42 years, retiring in 1998. After his retirement, he went on to work as a Courier for the Olean General Hospital. He was a member of St. Pacificus, the Allegany American Legion Post #892 and a former member of the Allegany Fire department. Mr. O'Brien loved spending his time with his grandchildren and his dog Maxi, who will all miss him deeply. Surviving besides his wife are their 2 children Mitchell (Kelly) O'Brien of Pickerington, OH, Lori (Denis) Bradley of Allegany; 4 grandchildren Kelly (Charles) Fortuna, Ryan Bradley, Catherine O'Brien, Benjamin O'Brien; 1 sister Joyce (Dennis) Spear; many cousins; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers Robert MacDonald and David O'Brien At Mr. O'Brien's request, there will be no public viewing. A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorials if desired may be made to the Allegany Fire Department, the SPCA 2944 Hinsdale-Olean Road, Olean NY 14760, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road.
