Obituary of Robert Stevens

West Seneca-- Robert J. Stevens of 1187 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca, formerly of Olean, passed away Saturday (November 21, 2009) at the Buffalo General Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born September 10, 1921, in Olean, he was the son of Walter and Julia Shortell Stevens. On June 25, 1949 at St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church in Toronto, Ontario, he married Mary Margaret Chapman, who predeceased him on March 22, 2004.
Mr. Stevens was a graduate of Olean High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during World War II. He later went on to work for Dresser Rand, as an accountant, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of St. John Vianney Church in Buffalo and a former member of St. Mary of the Angels Church. He was also a past member of the NAA (National Association of Accountants) as well as the Allegany Knights of Columbus, council 1220.
Surviving are his three children John (Deborah) Stevens of Olean, Jane (Timothy) Wilson of Amherst, Jeffrey (Rita) Stevens of West Seneca, six grandchildren Bradley and Brittany Stevens, Julia and Kelly Wilson, Kevin and Brian Stevens; one sister Noreen Collins of Orchard Park; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife he was predeceased by a sister Dorothy Rogers.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral home, 3128 W. State Road on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (November 25, 2009) beginning with a 10:00am prayer service in the funeral home. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30am at St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
