Elba M. "Brub" Dodge
Olean, NY-Elba M. "Brub" Dodge of 225 N. 15th St. died Tuesday (November 17, 2009) in The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean.
Born December 21, 1924 in Olean, NY he was the son of Elba and Edna Prince Dodge, Sr. On January 17, 1948 at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean he married Jeanne E. Welch who survives.
Mr. Dodge was a graduate of Olean High School where he was a founding member of the famed '41-'42 Football Club. He later graduated from Buffalo State College. He was a veteran of the US Navy having first served during WWII aboard the USS Weaver and later for the National Guard. He also served during the Korean War aboard the USS Butner.
As a lifelong resident of Olean he first taught for three years at Hinsdale Central School and was then employed for 37 years by Dresser Clark as an Industrial Engineer, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church, the Dresser Rand Retirees Association and the St. Bonaventure Golf Club. He coached Little League for ten years and he enjoyed attending yearly Navy reunions.
Surviving besides his wife are 1 son Stephen (Cheryl) Dodge of Salamanca; 3 daughters Susan (Ronald) Varrichio of Sayville, Carolyn (Richard) Root of Cuba and Nancy (Sheldon) Kennedy of E. Amherst; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandsons; 2 sisters Virginia "Chick" Evans of Olean and Marcella Criscione of Buffalo and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 1 brother Robert Dodge.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday from 5-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday (November 21, 2009) at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Mary of the Angels Church Building Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice.
