Leona K. Wilson
Allegany, NY-- Leona K. Wilson of 110 E. Main St. Emerald Hills died Wed. (Dec. 31, 2003) shortly after admission to Olean General Hospital. Born August 6, 1904 in Chipmonk, NY she was the daughter of John and Bessie Clark Ort. On April 12, 1924 she married Ralph E. Wilson, Sr. who predeceased her April 29, 1977.
Mrs. Wilson attended school in Bradford, PA and later worked at Wilson’s Grocery in South Vandalia. She resided in the Bradford, PA and Allegany, NY areas all of her life and spent many years as a foster parent, caring for 33 children in her home over the years. She was a member of the First Free Methodist Church in Allegany, served as president of the Women’s Missionary Society for 6 years and volunteered for Interfaith Caregivers.
Surviving are 4 daughters Bessie E. Bartlow of Modesto, CA, Sarah K. Hovey of Corning, NY, Dorothy J. (Thomas) Yehl of Allegany, NY and Frances E. Rogalski of Stockton CA; 19 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; 1 sister Emma G. Lauser of Robertsdale, AL, several nieces and nephews; 3 foster children Rachel Patch of Lancaster, PA, Yvonne (Earl) Stanton of Kennedy, NY and Sharon Miller of Salamanca, NY and 2 daughter-in-laws Jeanne Wilson and Carolyn Wilson.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 3 sons George Wilson, who died as a newborn, Ralph E. "Sonny" Wilson who died April 12, 2001 and Robert L. Wilson who died March 26, 2000; 2 infant grandsons Russell Hovey on September 19, 1948 and Jeffrey Rogalski on January 11, 1949; 4 brothers Bruce Ort, Quentin Ort, Milton Ort and Henry Ort; 3 sisters Harriett Lauser, Charlotte Zander and Anna Mae Nelson and a brother-in-law William "Buster" Nelson.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Saturday (January 3, 2004) from 2 until 5pm at which time funeral services will be held in the funeral home. Rev. Glenn Treaster, visitation minister at Allegany First Free Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Free Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
