“Loving mother and grandmother”
Olean, NY—Barbara E. Lockwood of 3063 Pennsylvania Rd. died Monday (July 21, 2008) in the Olean General Hospital after a short illness.
Born March 10, 1930 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Herman and Elizabeth Miller Shaffer. On May 24, 1952 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Allegany she married James R. Lockwood who predeceased her on November 16, 2005.
Mrs. Lockwood attended school in Allegany and had been employed by the former Acme Electric Co. in Allegany, the former Hormel’s Bakery, the former A&P Grocery Store and also the Telephone Store. She was a hard working homemaker who also helped operate the family farm. She enjoyed walking, doing crossword puzzles and was she was proud of keeping her yard beautiful.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Olean, the Lady Elks, the Ladies of the Moose and the Fay Hollow Sunshine Club. She was also a former member of the Rebekah Lodge of Hinsdale.
Surviving are 1 daughter Denise (John) Filjones of Allegany; 1 son Craig A. (Darlene) Lockwood of Hinsdale; 5 grandchildren Kimberly Lockwood, Jennifer Lockwood, Heather Donavon, Jeremiah (Amy) Filjones and Jonathan (Mary) Filjones; 1 great granddaughter Kaleigh Donavon of Allegany; 2 great grandsons Nolan Donavon and Jack James Filjones; several nieces and nephews; a daughter-in-law Pauline Lockwood of New Smyrna Beach, FL; 1 sister-in-law Gertrude Shaffer and 1 brother-in-law Fred Moore.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 1 son Arthur J. Lockwood in 1996; 2 brothers Robert Shaffer and Marvin Shaffer and 1 sister Marjorie Moore.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral and committal services will be held Thursday (July 24, 2008) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Hinsdale Fire Department or to the Hinsdale American Legion.
