George A. "Buster" Scott
Loving father and grandfather
Allegany, NY- George A. "Buster" Scott of 1440 Four Mile Road in Allegany died Tuesday (May 27, 2003) in Roswell Park Cancer Institute after a long illness. Born May 20, 1929 in Humphrey, NY he was the son of Zer A. and Grace A. Chapman Scott. On May 22, 1954 in Humphrey, NY he married !MaeBelle Westlake who survives.
Mr. Scott had been a resident of Humphrey most of his life, having moved to Allegany in 1969. He retired as a foreman in 1985 after 40 years of employment with the Cattaraugus County Highway Department. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 and was a member of the American Legion in Allegany and the ASFME retiree's association. He was also a former member of CSEA.
Along with his wife he spent many years raising 11 foster children in his home.
Surviving besides his wife are 2 daughters Sandra (Jeffrey) Hawley of Allegany and Shelley (Gerald) Mitchell of Duke Center, Pa.; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 1 foster son Edward (Tina) Sherwood of Bloomsburg, Pa; 1 sister Kathleen Mett of Salamanca and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 1 sister Doris Keir and 3 brothers Harold Scott, Walter Scott and Charles Scott.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday (May 30, 2003) from 11:00am until 2:00pm at which time funeral and committal services will be held. Rev. Frank Hayman, pastor of the Allegany Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.
