Florence Isabelle Sullivan
Olean, NY—Florence Isabelle Sullivan, formerly of S. 11th St. and most recently of Eden Heights died Wednesday (March 7, 2007) in the Olean General Hospital after a short illness.
Born August 17, 1915 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Stiles. In December of 1941 in Olean she married John B. Sullivan who predeceased her August 5, 1998.
Mrs. Sullivan was a 1933 graduate of St. Elizabeth’s Academy and also graduated from the Olean Business Institute. After her marriage she resided in Rochester in the mid 1940’s and Oklahoma in the late 1940’s. She then moved to the Bay Area in California in 1963 before returning to Olean in 1965. She primarily raised her family but also had been employed by the Olean Credit Bureau from the mid 1960’s through the mid 1970’s. Along with her husband she was the proprietor of Sullivan’s Restaurant on West State St. in Olean from the mid 1970’s until the mid 1980’s.
She was a longtime member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and was a founding member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Surviving are 2 sons Thomas J. (Kimberlee) Sullivan of Wilmette, IL and Jerome (Lois) Sullivan of Olean; 9 grandchildren Christopher Sullivan, Mark Sullivan, Connor Sullivan, Kallen Sullivan, Abigail Sullivan, Susan Smart, Maggie Sullivan, Jerome Sullivan and Adam Sullivan; 1 sister Margaret Kirwan of Buffalo and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 2 sons John J. Sullivan in 1996 and Mark D. Sullivan in 1954 and 2 sisters Julia Fitzpatrick O’Brien and Mary Fitzpatrick Hoff.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (March 10, 2007) beginning with a prayer service at 10:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
