Allegany, NY—Russell C. Wilber of 2796 Rogers Road died Thursday (March 15, 2007) in the Olean General Hospital after a short illness.
Born September 11, 1933 in Olean, NY he was the son of Clayton and Vera Dunham Wilber. On March 17, 1967 in Allegany he married Frances A. Semelsberger who survives.
Mr. Wilber was a graduate of Allegany High School and was a lifelong resident of Allegany. He had served with the US Army from 1953 until 1956.
He worked for 25 years for the Village of Allegany prior to his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Allegany Fire Department, the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post #892, the Cuba VFW and the Am Vets Post 1 in Cuba. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and NASCAR racing.
Surviving besides his wife are 2 daughters Chris (Jeff) Smith of Allegany and Karen Wilber of Hinsdale; 3 stepsons Phillip (Carol) Spring, Randy (Diane) Spring and Dana (Toni) Spring, all of Allegany; 1 stepdaughter Angela (Monty) Howden of Allegany; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 3 brothers Donald Wilber of Olean, James (Doreen Young) Wilber of Allegany and Doc (Marianne) Wilber of St. Cloud, FL; 1 son-in-law Bob Guthrie of Allegany and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 1 sister Janice Griffith.
No visitation will be observed. A celebration of Mr. Wilber’s life will take place by family members at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined and donations in his memory may be made to the Allegany American Legion or to the Allegany Fire Department.
Memorial arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
