Obituary of Bruce A. Ehlers

Allegany—Bruce A. Ehlers of 2394 W. Five Mile Road, Allegany, passed away Saturday July 21, 2007 at the Bradford Regional Medical Center in Bradford PA, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born April 28, 1941 in St. Mary’s PA, he was the son of Herbert and Katherine Zamborski Ehlers. On May 11, 1968 in Emporium PA, he married Sherrill L. Fields who survives.
Mr. Ehlers was a graduate of Emporium High School in Pa and the Embry-Riddle Flight School in Florida. He was a Veteran of the US Army having served as an MP during the Vietnam War.
He was first employed at Sylvania Corporation in Emporium PA and then for Pennsylvania Press Metals in Emporium PA until 1976. Later in 1976 he moved to Olean and began working as an agent for Combined Life Insurance Company. He then was a route driver for ten years for Stroehmann’s Bakery and later worked for the R.J. Reynolds Co. He served as a corrections officer for the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department in Little Valley for 15 years prior to his retirement
He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Portville and of the BPOE #491 in Olean. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and being a grandpa.
Surviving besides his wife is a son Matt (Dawn) Ehlers of Warrington, Pa; a grandson Matthew Ehlers and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister Caroline Kreiger.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road Olean on Tuesday July 24, 2007 from 12pm until the start of services at 2pm. Rev. Paula Roulette, pastor of the Bethel Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be at the Allegany Cemetery, Allegany.
Memorials if desired may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or to the donor’s choice.
