Obituary of Georgianna A. Martel

GEORGIANNA A. "DOLLY" MARTEL OLEAN - Georgianna A. "Dolly" Martel of Maple Street, Olean died at home Thursday July 3, 2003 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Salamanca, NY on April 17, 1927 she was a daughter of Gail and Grace Nutter Nye. On June 4, 1949in !KillBuck, she married Alfred R. Martel who predeceased her in May of 1974. They enjoyed twenty five happy and loving years of marriage.. Mrs. Martel was a resident of !KillBuck prior to moving to Olean in 1949. She was employed by Olean Advanced Products for many years prior to her retirement in 1992. In her retirement years, she enjoyed her friends and family and leisure trips. She was a member of St. John's Church. She is survived by two daughters; Demaires (Gary) Meyers of Allegany, NY and Denise (Gary) Balfour of Castleton, NY; three grandchildren; Lori (David) Mazon, Andrea (Joshua) Kruger and Emilie Balfour; two great grandchildren, Ryan and Lilly Mazon; her devoted companion, Dominic Russo and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by brothers, Paul and William Nye and one sister, Lucille Manning. In honoring Dolly's wishes there will be no public visitation. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday July 7, 2003 at St. John's Church at 10:00 AM. Msgr. William Wangler will be celebrant. Burial and committal services will follow at St. Bonaventure Cemetery. . Memorials may be made to St. John's Church, Roswell Park Cancer Institute or to a charity of your choice. Flowers are gratefully declined by the family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Rd., Olean.
