Obituary of Arthur Joseph Milani

Arthur Joseph Milani Allegany, NY--Arthur Joseph Milani of 4115 S. Nine Mile Rd. died Monday (May 8, 2006) in his home. Born July 7, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of Joseph and Ella Brodie Milani. On November 9, 1957 he married Helen E. Howard who survives. Mr. Milani attended school in Sag Harbor, NY and enlisted in the US Navy. He served for 20 years, with active service on five Destroyers and one Aircraft Carrier. He later worked as a Navy recruiter in both Olean, NY and Utica, NY., retiring as a Machinist Mate Chief. He was then employed by General Electric Co. for fifteen years in New York City, Syracuse, NY, West Springfield, MA and Cleveland, OH. He retired as a salesman for Utica National Insurance Group in Utica, NY. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Vandalia and he enjoyed camping, amateur radio, and wood carving. He was also a member of the American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892 of Allegany where he was a volunteer driver for the DAV van service. In addition, he belonged to the Fleet Reserve Association, the Sixty Plus of Allegany and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He was formerly active with the Boy Scouts and Peewee football. Surviving besides his wife are 4 children Joseph R. (Laraine) Milani of Northampton, MA, Elizabeth A. Milani of Richmond, KY, Deborah L. (Steven) Widelo of Winchester, KY and John A. (Barbara) Milani of Rome, NY; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 1 brother Philip A. (Catherine) Milani of Smithtown, NY and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters Ella Hamilton and Roberta Pardue. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday (May 11, 2006) beginning with a prayer service at the funeral home at 9:15am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. John the Baptist Church, Vandalia. Fr. Richard Flaherty, OFM will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Milani Family Trust Fund C/O St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School 307 Gower St. Greenville, SC 29611, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation 9500 Euclid Ave. Cleveland, OH 44195 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
