Obituary of Florence M. Sherman

Florence M. Sherman “loving grandma, mother, great grandma” Allegany, NY-- Florence M. Sherman of 1440 Four Mile Rd. Lot 1 passed away Monday (May 15, 2006) in the Olean General Hospital after a short illness. Born April 15, 1931 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Francis and Florence Winchell Sherman. She was married to Anthony Zasimowick who predeceased her April 16, 1971. Mrs. Sherman was a 1951 graduate of Portville High School and also graduated from St. Bonaventure University. While residing in N. Tonawanda she received a nursing degree from Lockport Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and worked there as a registered nurse from 1959 to 1967. In 1973 she moved to Panama City, FL prior to moving to Allegany in February of 1989. She was a member of the New Apostolic Church in Olean and her favorite activities included playing bingo, growing flowers and being outdoors. Surviving are 2 daughters Josephine (Ricky) Doxey of Lockport and Florence Zasimowick of Olean; an adopted daughter Debra Keech of Olean; 4 grandsons David Koch of Allegany, Anthony Zasimowick of Olean and Lee Roberts and Shawn Roberts, both of FL; 4 granddaughters Kimberly Roberts of FL and Shanieka Johnson, Sarah Johnson and Amie Johnson, all of Olean and a special friend Joseph Doxey of Lockport. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a granddaughter Kristina Johnson in 1997. Friends may attend a memorial visitation to be held Thursday (May 18, 2006) at the New Apostolic Church 923 King St. Olean from 2-4pm and 7-8pm at which time a memorial service will be held. Rev. John Northrup, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be by cremation. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the New Apostolic Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
