Obituary of John W. Ostergard

John W. Ostergard “avid sports fan” Olean, NY-- John W. Ostergard of 1942 E. River Rd. died Friday (May 19, 2006) in Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. Born October 7, 1945 at Hammer Field AFB in Fresno, CA he was the son of Merle and Dorothy Ahrens Ostergard. Mr. Ostergard was a graduate of Olean High School and a 1976 graduate of St. Bonaventure University. He was a lifelong resident of Olean and had been employed as a medical accountant for the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services. Having been born with the disease known as osteogenesis imperfecta, he lived life to the fullest where he served as a past president and vice president to the Local CSEA and CSEA unit. He enjoyed playing bridge, and his hobbies included playing Texas Holdem and also stamp collecting. He was an avid sports fan. Surviving are his mother of Olean; 2 sisters Judy (R. Jeff) Young of Allegany and Linda (Robert) Swope of Halifax, PA; 2 aunts Jeanne Ahrens of Olean and Betty Osgood of Olean; 2 nephews R. Michael (Sonia) Young of Port Allegany, PA and Jason (Andrea) Swope of Harrisburg, PA; 1 niece Tara Swope-Miller of Halifax, PA; several grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins and a special friend Laila White and her four sons Adam !McDow, Desmond White, Mike White and Chris White. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (May 23, 2006) at 1:30pm in the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Anthony L. Evans will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Lung Association.
