Obituary of Robert Matthew Washko

Robert Matthew Washko Olean, NY—Robert Matthew Washko of 133 N. 17th St. was called home after a lengthy battle with brain cancer. Born December 13, 1975 in Bradford, PA he was the son of Robert Washko and Roberta Bigley Wymer. Robert was a 1994 graduate of Olean High School. During his junior year of high school he joined the US Army Reserves. After school he received his basic training in Columbia, SC and was then stationed in Ft. Lewis in Tacoma, Washington. He was also stationed in Korea and achieved the rank of Sgt E-5. During his service he received the Army commendation medal, the Army achievement medal, the national defense service medal, the Army good conduct medal and several service ribbons. Robert was a person who enjoyed helping others. After receiving a medical disability, he volunteered with students at Washington West Elementary School in the fall of 2003. His hobbies included 4 wheeling and golf. He loved his late golden retriever “Tigger” who was always by his side. Robert will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. Surviving are his mother and stepfather Roberta and Terry Wymer of Olean; his fiancé Tina Capito of Olean; a stepbrother Corry Wymer of Olean; paternal grandfather Frank Washko of Windber, PA and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, his maternal grandparents, his paternal grandmother, 2 aunts, 1 uncle and a second cousin. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean on Saturday from 7-9pm and on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Monday (July 10, 2006) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Gerald Piper, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Limestone Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
