Obituary of Frances S. Matteson

Frances S. Matteson- “beloved mother and grandmother” Allegany, NY—Frances S. Matteson of 3949 Five Mile Road passed away peacefully Wednesday (October 25, 2006) in her home. Born January 16, 1930 in Salamanca, NY she was the daughter of Herbert and Bertha Noble Moore. On July 1, 1944, she married Herman A. Matteson who predeceased her December 8, 1965. Mrs. Matteson was raised in Salamanca and also resided in Olean. For the past 21 years she lived at her current residence in Allegany. She had worked for the Olean Tile Co. and also for the former Hi-Q Co. in Olean. She retired from Signore’s in Ellicottville in September of 1993 after 25 years of employment. She enjoyed knitting, reading, gardening, crossword puzzles and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was proud of being the granddaughter of Pvt. Thomas J. Moore, a Civil War Veteran of Cattaraugus Co. Surviving are 3 children Janet (John) Green of East Otto, NY, William (Bonnie) Matteson of Olean and Barbara (Jeffery) !McMaster of Allegany; 12 grandchildren including Ruth (Perry) Attwell of Olean whom she raised like a daughter; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a son Walter George Matteson in February of 1979 and 2 sisters Pearl Matteson and Catherine Bargy. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean today from 2-4 & 7-9. Funeral services will be held Friday (October 27, 2006) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Irwin W. Reist, of the United Methodist Church in East Otto, NY will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean. Memorials may be made to the Allegany Fire Department or to Women and Children’s Hospital 219 Bryant St. Buffalo, NY 14222.
