“Loving father and grandfather”
Olean, NY—Stephen B. Crowley, 87, of 619 Route 16 South died Saturday (December 23, 2006) in the Olean General Hospital following a brief illness.
Born July 23, 1919 in Port Allegany, PA he was the son of William and Olive Splain Crowley. On October 20, 1941 in Eldred, PA he married Naomi Sanderson who predeceased him September 10, 2001.
Mr. Crowley was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII. From 1955 to 1982 he was employed by Acme Electric Co. in Cuba and in Lumberton, NC.
He was a founding member of the Knap Creek Volunteer Fire Department and belonged to the Cuba American Legion Post 655. He currently attended St. Mary of the Angels Church and was a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Knapp Creek. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and he enjoyed walking.
Surviving are 3 children Jack (Gail) Crowley of Eldred, PA, Judy Smith of Olean and Sue Crowley of Ithaca; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 1 sister Thelma Spehar of Eldred, PA and several nieces and nephews including Sandra (Ed) Goodliff, Joann (Joseph) Menter, Jeff Sanderson and Fred (Debbie) Sanderson.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 2 brothers Howard Crowley and William Crowley and 2 sisters Mary Eaton and Madeline Nenno.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday (December 28, 2006) at 10:00am at St Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
