Betty J. Ostergard Osgood
Olean, NY—Betty J. Ostergard Osgood ofW. Riverside Dr. died Wednesday (December 27, 2006) in The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center, Olean after a brief illness.
Born February 13, 1916 in Cleveland, OH, she was the daughter of Emory and Beatrice Siddons Ostergard. On July 2, 1938 in Olean, she married Harold V. Osgood who predeceased her on July 18, 1975.
As a young child she and her siblings were raised by John and Marcialyn Siddons !McAuliffe along with their children !JoAnn (Carl) Samuelson of Allegany and Gerald 'Bud' (Peg) !McAuliffe. Marcialyn later married Morgan Sigel from this area.
Mrs. Osgood was a graduate of Olean High School. She worked for the former Palmquist Jewelers in Olean and later as a sales clerk for Bradner’s Department Store. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Olean and had served as a deacon as well as being a member of the Women’s Club. She was a honorary member of the Board of National Missions and member of the Olean Senior League.
Surviving are a son, Kirk (Kathleen Farrell) Osgood of Carrollton, TX; a grandson, Dr. Kevin (Tori) Osgood of Denver, CO; 3 nieces, Linda (Robert) Swope of Halifax, PA, Judy (Jeff) Young of Allegany; Karen Salemi of Yorba Linda, CA; 2 nephews, Keith (Lijun) Ostergard of Beijing, China and Kerry (Rayleen) Ostergard of Kansas City, MO and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ostergard of Olean.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a sister, Georgia Russell; a brother, Merle Ostergard; her cousin, Gerald 'Bud' !McAuliffe; a niece, Marcia Snyder and 2 nephews, Robert Russell and John Ostergard.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean today from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday (December 30, 2006) at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Rev. Evon !McJunkin, interim pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Olean, will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Olean.
