"Man of strong faith"
Allegany, NY-- John P. Matrone of 3100 Cranberry Court died Saturday (January 29, 2005) in the Buffalo General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born March 30, 1035 in Coudersport, PA he was the son of Louis and Mary Acre Matrone. On June 9, 1962 at St. Steven’s Episcopal Church in Olean he married Joan Marie Ginter who survives.
Mr. Matrone attended Coudersport area schools and later enlisted in the US Army, serving his country from 1958 until 1962. He had been employed for St. Bonaventure University food service program for 31 years, retiring in 1998.
He was a man of strong faith, a caring family man, and was an avid follower of football and horseracing.
Surviving besides his wife are 1 son Michael (Tami) Matrone of Charlotte, NC; 3 daughters Tammy (William) Powell of Lincolnton, NC, Virginia (Louie) Delatorre of El Paso, TX and Suzanne (Raymond) Charles of Allegany; 9 grandchildren; 4 sisters Patricia (Norris) !VanGorder of Smethport, PA, Anne (John) Perkins of Pinehurst, NC, Jeanne (John) Howlett of Emporium, PA and Carol (Lester) Spearen of Port Allegany, PA; 2 brothers Donald Matrone of Battle Creek, MI and Nick (Kathy) Matrone of Port Allegany, PA and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 1 brother George Winnie and 2 sisters Mary Lou Wandover and Elizabeth Barber.
There will be no public visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
