Allegany, NY--Bertha W. Lord, recently of Cranberry Court died Friday (August 15, 2003) in the Olean General Hospital.
Born April 12, 1916 in Silver Creek, NY she was the daughter of Cyrus and Grace Wyckoff. She was first married to James M. Kerr who predeceased her February 27, 1970. On May 14, 1971 she married Clyde Lord who predeceased her January 19, 1987.
Mrs. Lord was a graduate of Olean High School and had lived in Allegany most of her life. She also resided in St. Petersburg, FL for 14 years. She had worked for several years for the former AM&A’s Dept. Store, W.T. Grant Co. and Kresge’s store. She had also worked at the Allegany Central School Cafeteria.
As a very devout Christian, Mrs. Lord was a longtime member of the Allegany Baptist Church where she and her husband were one of the church’s founding families. She formerly attended Sixty Plus activities and enjoyed camping.
Surviving are 1 son Brian Kerr of Olean; 1 daughter Bonnie (Charles) Straub of Allegany; 2 grandsons David Straub and Daniel Straub; 2 stepsons Richard Lord of Garner, IO and Robert Lord of Aubrey, TX; 1 stepdaughter Leatha Carroll of Willard, NY and several step grandchildren, nieces and nephews, including a special niece and nephew Betty Lou and Clyde Shifley of Angelica.
In addition to her two husbands, she was predeceased by 1 son Larry J. Kerr; 1 stepson Delbert Lord in 1978; 1 brother Gilford Wyckoff and 2 sisters Frances Brown and Dorothy Stady.
There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Saturday (August 23, 2003) at 11:00am in the Allegany Baptist Church. Pastor Frank Hayman will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery in Olean. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany Baptist Church.
