Olean, NY-- Ella Violetta Simmons of N. 13th St. died Friday (May 13, 2005) in her home.
Born February 12, 1909 in Open Brook, Turtle Point, PA she was the daughter of Wilmer and Effe Burroughs Lawton. In 1928 in Allegany she married Albert Simmons who predeceased her September 12, 1966.
Mrs. Simmons had been employed for many years at the former Portville Tannery and Standard Linen Supply of Olean before her retirement in 1959.
She was a member of the Grace Alliance Church in Olean. She was a New York State representative for the Save The Children Federation for many years and was very involved working tirelessly for this cause. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and collecting miniature antiques.
Surviving are a son Dwayne Simmons of Olean; 3 nieces Carolyn (Dean) Shores of Port Allegany, PA, Connie (Jerry) Brenan of Duke Center, PA and Joan (Larry) Edwards of Magnolia, TX; 3 nephews Ward (Nancy) Swift of Leola, PA, William (Gerri) Swift of Syracuse and Terry (Angie) Simmons of Lewisville, TX.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a son Arnold Simmons in 2002; 2 sisters Pansy Swift and Lucinda Babinger; 1 brother Henry Lawton and a beloved aunt Susan Burroughs.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Monday (May 16, 2005) from 1 until 2:00pm. Rev. James Whitman, pastor of Grace Alliance Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean. Memorials may be made to the Grace Alliance Church 1513 Main St. Olean, NY 14760.
