Josephine M. Apa
Rocklin, Ca.- Josephine M. Apa, formerly of the Olean area, died Tuesday (December 24, 2002) in the Folson Convalescent Hospital in Folson, California.
Born December 8, 1910 in Serra San Bruno, Calabria, Italy she was the daughter of Bruno and Rose Catroppa Tucci. On April 3, 1937 in Johnsonburg, Pa. she married Ralph Anthony Apa, Sr. who predeceased her November 28, 1971.
Mrs. Apa was raised in Johnsonburg, Pa. and has been a resident of the Olean area since her marriage in 1937. She had been employed for 25 years for Acme Electric Co. in Allegany prior to her retirement in 1976.
She was very active for over 20 years as the local chairperson for the Mother’s March of Dimes. She was a former member of St. John’s Church in Olean and had attended St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany for the past 18 years. In 1997 she moved to Rocklin, California to reside at the home of her daughter.
Surviving are 3 sons Ralph Anthony (Terry) Apa, Jr. of Liverpool, Oh., Fred Apa of Bradford, Pa. and Michael Apa of West Chicago, Il; 1 daughter Frances Apa of Rocklin, Ca. and 1 adopted daughter Victoria Alonzo of Rocklin, Ca.; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Louise Servidea of St. Mary’s Pa. and Theresa Caruso of Phoenix, Az; 1 brother Floyd (Florence) L Tucci of St. Mary’s Pa. and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 1 sister Mary Caruso on December 13, 2002 and 2 brothers Michael Tucci in 1997 and Peter Tucci who died in Tunisia, Africa in WWII.
Friends will be received on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral 3128 W. State Rd. Olean where a prayer service will be held Tuesday (December 31, 2002) at 9:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of WNY, 1284 French Rd. Depew, NY 14043.
