Obituary of Terrence P. O'Brien

Terrence P. O’Brien Springville, NY Terrence P. O’Brien, 83, formerly of Wilson, passed away Thursday (September 12, 2024) at Fiddler’s Green Manor in Springville where he had resided for the past several years. Born November 22, 1940 in Olean, he was the son of the late Kenneth O’Brien and Charlotte K. LaComte Kahle. From the time he was young he was raised in Duke Center, PA by his mother and stepfather, the late Earl F. Kahle. While a teenager in the 1950’s he moved to Wilson. His adventurous spirit led him to move to Southern California to begin a career as a federal firefighter for the US Forestry Service in Santa Barbara where he operated a fire station. He retired in the late 1970’s and lived in Ventura, CA before moving back to Hinsdale due to health concerns. Terrence loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also artistic and loved to draw beautiful pictures. He leaves behind 2 brothers, David (Wendy) O’Brien of Cuba and Steve Kahle of North Carolina; 1 sister Judy Wetherby Kahle of Ischua; a sister-in-law Cindy Forness Mazza of North Carolina; a brother-in-law Tom Sawyer, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and stepfather, 2 sisters Kathy Kahle Sawyer and Sue Ann Kahle Desso, and a longtime companion of 30 years, Doreen McCracken. There will be no visitation or funeral service. His life will be celebrated with a private gathering of family and friends. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
