Obituary of William A. Pittman

William A. Pittman Allegany, NY William A. Pittman, 88, of 3974 Route 417 Colonial Village, passed away peacefully Tuesday ( August 13, 2024) after a short stay at Bradford Manor. Bill was born in Allegany on May 5, 1936, the youngest of 9 children to Frank E. and Hester M. Grandusky Pittman. He was married to Cherie L. Marshall who passed away October 28, 2015. Bill graduated from Allegany Central High School where he played sports, especially football and baseball, and served as class vice president. He then served in the US Army from 1955 to 1958. As a lifelong resident of Allegany, he worked for a period of time as a police officer for the village, then worked many years for the US Post Office, retiring as Postmaster in 1986. In his post-retirement years, he assisted at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home. Bill had many interests he enjoyed. He could be counted on as a friend who was willing to help in any way. He particularly enjoyed being outside, mowing his yard and other’s yards as well. He always looked forward to planting a garden and having flowers growing on his property. He loved his social activities as a member of both the Allegany American Legion and the Limestone American Legion and was a former member of the ritual team for the Allegany Post. He belonged to the Limestone Fireman’s Club, the Italian Club of Bradford, PA, and the IOOB of Franklinville. Left to love and miss his comical sense of humor are a daughter, Maria (Jason Magara) Pittman of Allegany; 2 grandchildren, Ryan (Brad) Ullman and Jailynn Magara; 2 great grandchildren, Braeley Ullman and Braden Ullman; a sister Mary Glover of Allegany, many nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law Anne Pittman of Allegany, and a special friend, Rod Kelley of Allegany. In addition to his wife Cherie, he was predeceased by 7 brothers and sisters, Caroline Clark, Helen Killion, Hester Kinney, Tom Pittman, Violet Garcia, Naomi Magee, and Marlene Collins. The family welcomes friends to a visitation at the Allegany American Legion on Friday (August 16, 2024) from 2-4pm. The Allegany American Legion Ritual Team will provide full military services at 4pm after visitation. A funeral service led by Dr. Anthony Evans will immediately follow. After cremation, burial will be next to Cherie in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Allegany American Legion, 4350 Route 417, Allegany, NY 14706. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
