Obituary of Lynda D. Backhaus
Lynda Rado Backhaus Loving Mother, 'Nana' and 'Great Nana'
Allegany, NY Lynda Rado Backhaus of 110 E. Main St. Emerald Hills, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday (July 17, 2024) at her home.
Born September 4, 1943 at the former St. Francis Hospital in Olean with her twin brother Thomas, she was the daughter of Joseph Rado and Ann Harris Rado, who were previously parents to another set of twins, Joseph and David. She was formerly married to Gerardus A. Backhaus for 17 years after which they divorced in 1983.
Ms. Backhaus was a 1963 graduate of Allegany Central School and first worked for the former St. Francis Hospital. She then worked as a clerk for area stores including Bradner's Department Store, Kinter Department Store, Carnahan's Men’s Clothing Store, and SK Tates Clothing Store, all in Olean. Later she worked for the Allegany Pharmacy and for 7 years was employed by Olean Travel Agency. She most recently worked for Walmart in Allegany, primarily as a specialist in the Photo Center, for 16 years prior to her retirement in December of 2012.
She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and its Altar and Rosary Society as well as having been a Eucharistic Minister. Since 1983 she had been a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court #1449. In 2013 she joined the Sixty-Plus of Allegany. Lynda loved and enjoyed her family and friends.
Family members include a son John T. (Rosalie Kay) Backhaus of Allegany; 2 granddaughters Brianna Lee (Kobie) Reynolds and Brittany Ann (Ronnie) Babb; 5 great grandchildren Ethan Thomas Bowen, Braeden Kelly Reynolds, Sophia Rose Babb, Eugene Babb and Charlie Ray Babb; 2 brothers, twins Joseph P. (Arlene) Rado and David L. Rado, both of Allegany and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, and a twin brother Thomas K. Rado on July 18, 2008.
A memorial visitation will take place on Thursday (July 25, 2024) from 4-7pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday (July 26, 2024) at 10AM at St. Bonaventure Church. Burial of her urn will follow at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, next to her twin brother Thomas.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, the American Cancer Society, St. Bonaventure Church or the Allegany Fire Department.
