Bill and I were lucky enough to find and marry the Mahar girls. As protestant boys we were welcomed into the Catholic Mahar family and lived happily ever after. Bill’s interest in old cars kept he and I close but his knowledge and skill with model trains far surpassed mine but he heartily shared the interest. The train board evolved to an accurate representation of the area where he grew up with his family. His skills were challenged with design and construction of the family home. Ellen’s faithful support continued through home building and raising of 3 sons while supporting the PA Weidner and Olean Mahar families. An excellent example of good people doing great things.

Dear Ellen and family,
It is with heavy heart that we write this to you. Bill was a wonderful gentleman at D-R. He was so easy to work with and joked with us when the company was more of a "family company." It has since changed, and not for the better.
Bill practiced with the band at Eldred United Methodist Church; and, when they were there practicing when we had our chicken BBQs, the whole band would always support us by buying them. It was always good to see him there as that was the only time I would see him. Ellen, I got to see you picking bluberries at Bozberries. What a fun day it was to be able to chat with you while we did the tedious work of picking those luscious berries.
God bless you all with peace, strength and comfort as only He can.
Love from D-R friends:
Laura McGovern, Judy Lotter, Cathy Marsh, Glenda Hall, Lois Carpenter, Jean Moran, Lola Stoughton

Oh Pa, where do I even begin to thank you? What a life you've led and a legacy you've left! You've always shown me such kindness, grace and warmth. You welcomed me into your home with open arms, a compassionate heart and a loving smile. You've always been there for Mike and I whenever we needed anything. You took us on vacations, reunions, band performances, plays, golf outings, barbershop events, movies and museums to name a few.
I am so lucky to have married your handsome son Michael Patrick; I always tell everyone I won my jackpot in life already because of the son you raised. He is, as you would say "a chip off the ol' block!" and has your same spirit. Oh my goodness, and that same giggle that you both have when you laugh deeply, it gets me every time. I promise you that I will give him, your sons Billy and Tim and Ma all of the strength that I have. While my heart is heavy as I write this, I take solace in the memories we've shared over the years. I take comfort in knowing that you are at peace. You will always be loved.
Your lucky daughter in law,
Tanya

Oh Tanya, so beautifully written and heart felt.
You and Mike were always so good and patient with Pa, as you so affectionately called him.
You two had such a way of getting him to do things, that I sometimes struggled with.
You both had that beautiful caring act, right to the very end.
Love you both so much. Ma
