Obituary of Thomas J. Lippert, Sr.

Allegany, NY Thomas J. Lippert, Sr., of 3879 Old State Rd. passed away Tuesday (April 2, 2024) at his home, with his wife by his side. Born April 25, 1951 in Olean, he was the son of Stephen M. and Beatrice D. Grandusky Lippert. Tom was a lifelong resident of Allegany where he often enjoyed hunting and golfing. He was a 1969 graduate of Allegany Central School and a 1971 graduate of Alfred Tech where he received a degree in horticulture. On September 11, 1971 at St. Bonaventure Church he married his high school sweetheart, Josephine B. “JoJo” Caruso who survives. Early in his working life he was employed by the Hunkin-Conkey Construction Co. and later for Work and Silvis Co.. He then worked for 32 years for the former Abbott Welding Supply Co. in Olean prior to his retirement. From 1992 to the present, he was an active member of the Allegany Sons of the American Legion Post 892, serving as a past commander and currently as their finance officer. Tom volunteered many hours as a member of the ritual team and for various activities at the Legion. He annually volunteered to do Wreaths Across America and along with many family members would put flags on the graves of the veterans at St. Bonaventure Cemetery for Memorial Day. He leaves behind his wife JoJo; 2 children Regina M. “Reggie” (Mike) Finch of Olean and Thomas J. (Nikki) Lippert, Jr. of Olean; 4 grandchildren Dennis Martinelli, Shay Lippert, Samuel Lippert, and Tristen Lippert: 5 siblings, David (Barb) Lippert of Elizabethtown, Stephanie (Brian) Klice of Friendship, Daniel (Dorothy) Lippert of Olean, Melodie (Rick) Giardini of Allegany, and Carol (Dean) Truman of Allegany; 2 sisters-in-law Cathy Lippert and Penny Lippert, both of Allegany; a brother-in-law Don Yehl of Allegany, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and 2 brothers Matthew Lippert, Sr. in 2021, and Lynn Lippert in 2022, a sister Mary Ann Yehl in 2024, and an infant sister. The family welcomes friends to a visitation at St. Bonaventure Church 95 E. Main St., Allegany on Saturday (April 6, 2024) from 11am to 1pm where a memorial mass will begin at 1pm. Rev. Michael Reyes, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Memorials may be made to the Sons of the American Legion, Charles Harbel Post 892, 4350 NY-417, Allegany, NY 14706. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
