Olean, NY - After a long illness, James M. Bartlett, 82, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday (October 25, 2023) with his Intandem staff by his side.
Born March 24, 1941, in Cuba, NY he was the son of Raymond and Ardys Barber Bartlett. On July 11, 1964, in Olean, he married Mildred Kemp who predeceased him.
Jim was a high school graduate who went on to work for SubCon Industries until 1994. He then worked for Olean General Hospital as a Janitor until his retirement in 2005.
Jim will be remembered for his love of baseball caps, especially his Mount Rushmore hat. He also loved all things Americana, his collection of canes, flannels, and his grandfather clock that was his most prized possession. He enjoyed watching Western movies, The Price Is Right, Vanna White from the Wheel of Fortune, the Buffalo Bills, and the New York Yankees. Jim enjoyed his outings with Community Habilitation especially shopping at Park & Shop and breakfast at Perkins. Jim was a free spirit and would often be seen riding his scooter through town. He enjoyed the peacefulness of sitting on the back patio swing at his Big 6th Street house.
One of Jim’s final wishes was that all his possessions go to people in need.
Jim is survived by his daughter Linda Bartlett of California, his friend Karen Hunt, all his dearest friends and staff from Intandem’s Big 6th Street house, the nursing staff, his colleagues at SubCon Industries, his friends from the supportive apartment program, and those who participated in the Day Habilitation program.
