Obituary of David E. Hall

David E. Hall Allegany, NY David E. Hall, 87, of Allegany, passed away Thursday (October 5, 2023) at the Olean General Hospital. Born January 20, 1936 in Olean, he was the son of Ned and Mary Shearer Hall. On February 12, 1955 in St. Bonaventure Church, he married Dorothy McGraw who survives. Dave attended St. Bonaventure Parochial School and graduated from Allegany Central School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 where he received ranger training in California and then completed his service in Germany until his discharge in 1956. He worked for many years for the former Hall Vault Company in Allegany, having been its vice president until its closure in 1972. He and his brother Ted established and operated Hall Remodeling Co. in Allegany until his retirement in 2005. Dave was a lifelong member of St. Bonaventure Church where he served as an usher for many years as well as having been the parochial school’s drill team instructor at one time. He was also a member of the Allegany Knights of Columbus as well as the former Jaycee’s in Allegany. For 25 years he served on the Village of Allegany’s Zoning Board of Appeals, and also as its building inspector for a number of years. As busy as he was, he found enjoyment in visiting his adult children and other family members in various parts of the country. He leaves behind his wife Dorothy to whom he was married 68 years; 2 sons David (Nancy) E. Hall, II of Westminster, CO, and Lawrence Hall of Darlington, MD; 4 grandchildren Jessica Hall, Ashley Hall, James Hall, and Christian Hall; 1 great granddaughter Faye Hall; 1 brother Ted (Shirley) Hall of Allegany; 1 sister Diane Moss of Allegany, and several nieces and nephews. Dave was predeceased by 2 sisters Phyllis Rice, and Audrey Stomierosky. A memorial service is being planned and will be announced at a future date. Burial will be later in Allegany Cemetery.
