Loving wife, mother, and grandmother
Allegany, NY Rosemary Saglimben, 87, passed away peacefully the evening of Saturday (August 12, 2023) in her home.
Born Mary 22, 1936 in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of John and Stella (Basik) Butinski. On January 5, 1957, at St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany, she married the love of her life, Carl P. Saglimben, who predeceased her. They were both blessed in January to celebrate their 66th wedding anniversary.
Rosemary, known as “Rosie” to most, graduated from Allegany Central School in 1954, shortly after her family relocated to Allegany from Pittsburgh. During her high school years, Rosemary was active in cheerleading and girls’ softball.
Although Rosemary spent most of her life as a stay-at-home mom caring for her children. For a period of several years, she served as the daytime hostess at the former Castle Restaurant in Olean. She was an active member of the St. Bonaventure Church as well as the Pulaski Club in Olean.
Her passion was spending time with her family, her children, and her grandchildren. To them, she and their grandfather Carl were known as Nani and Nanu (Italian for grandma and grandpa). Her love and devotion to her children and grandchildren was immeasurable.
Rosemary is survived by 4 children, Karen (Rich) Silloway of Olean, Mark (Patty) Saglimben of Allegany, Michael Saglimben of Allegany, and Brian (Gretchen) Saglimben of Langhorne, PA; grandchildren Lauren (Dean) Whitcomb, Dominic Saglimben, Brian Saglimben, Drew Saglimben, and Kyle Saglimben, as well as a sister-in-law Joyce Butinski, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carl P. Saglimben, who passed in January of this year, and her 3 brothers Edward “Bud” Butinski, Robert Butinski, and John “Peck” Butinski.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Donna, Estelle, and Allison, all of whom served as Rosemary’s loving caregivers in the final months of her life.
The family will be present to receive friends on Friday (August 18, 2023) from 10am-11am at the St. Bonaventure Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am in the church. Rev. Michael Reyes, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
The family respectfully declines flowers. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Pulaski Club, 1104 N. Union St, Olean, NY 14760, or the St. Bonaventure Parish, 95 E. Main St., Allegany, NY 14706.
