Tom Appleby was my father's (Richard Rice) best friend growing up. We visited Portville dozens of times in my lifetime and always stopped in to see the Appleby's. Tom was always kind, gentle and funny. His stories about the things he and Dad got into as teenagers were hilarious. My sisters and I have great memories of those visits.
