Olean, NY Anilet R. “Joyce” Samuel, 91, formerly of Cranberry Court Apartments, died Thursday (November 11, 2021) at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, after a long and fruitful life.
Born May 7, 1930 in Grenada, she was a daughter of the late James and Anna Samuel. On October 12, 1947 in Grenada she married Edmund Pysadee who predeceased her.
Joyce lived her early years in Granada. After her husband’s death she moved to Trinidad where she lived most of her adult life. She then resided in Montreal, Canada and later moved to the United States. She worked as a certified nurse’s aide, first in New Jersey, and then she lived in other States including Pennsylvania, Florida and Texas. When she moved to Bradford, PA she worked for the Bradford Ecumenical Home and had been a resident of the Olean area since the 1990’s after her retirement.
She was a woman of faith who enjoyed attending church and she loved to read, especially Christian books. She also liked to travel, garden, watch television, and bake bread.
Surviving are 7 children Claudette “Verna” Tom, Adrian “Reynold” Pysadee, Linda “Gemma” Pysadee, Joycelyn Pysadee, Carmen (Leo) Marchan, Kenneth “Denny” Pysadee and Richard (Amy) Samuel; 25 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 1 brother Hengry “Lio” Bhola; many nieces and nephews, and a former companion Moses Pooran.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter Sarah Potter on May 12, 2012; a nephew Roland Samuel, whom she raised like a son; Diane, whom she raised like a daughter; 2 sisters Ellen and Nen; and 1 brother Nevil.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean on Tuesday (November 16, 2021 from noon to 2pm. A funeral service will begin at 2pm in the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
