Mary A. Moricca
Olean, NY Mary A. Moricca, 91, of 115 S. 8th St., passed away Wednesday (October 27, 2021) at the Olean General Hospital from complications due to COVID-19.
Born April 7, 1930 in Olean, she was the daughter of Patrick and Teresa O’Donnell Hyland. On November 16, 1958 in St. John’s Church in Olean she married Francis T. “Chic” Moricca who passed away November 30, 1987.
Mary was a graduate of Olean High School and soon after, began working for the former NY Telephone Company in Olean until the 1980’s. She then began working for The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center of Olean as a receptionist until March of 2020.
She was a longtime member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels in Olean. She truly enjoyed her job at The Pines where she had daily contact with all who came through the doors each day. She also was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.
She leaves behind 2 daughters Susan E. Moricca and Maryann (Greg) Landries, both of Olean; 5 grandchildren Katlyn (Dylan) Butinski, Gregory Landries, Michael (Grace) Moricca, Megan (Patrick Dubiel) Moricca and Liam Moricca; a great-grandson Maxwell Landries; a sister Ann C. Hyland of Cuba; a brother Joseph (Betty) Hyland of Virginia; a sister-in-law Donna Moricca of Olean, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son Christopher W. Moricca on November 21, 2019; 2 brothers William Hyland and John Francis Hyland; a daughter-in-law Kim Moricca; a special niece Diane M. Driscoll and 2 special nephews Frederick John Moricca, III and Bradley L. Horowitz.
The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday (November 3, 2021) from 4-7pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 7pm in the funeral home. Deacon Matthew Wenke will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery at a later date.
