Allegany, NY--William R. Chamberlain of N. 5th St. died Monday (May 24, 2004) in the Olean General Hospital.
Born April 23, 1940 in Salamanca, NY he was the son of William R. Chamberlain and Katherine F. Outman Chouinard. On April 29, 1961 at St. Mary’s Church in Little Valley, NY he married Janice L. Wymer who survives.
Mr. Chamberlain attended school in Salamanca and graduated from Olean High School. He was employed for 25 years for the former Citizen’s National Bank where he worked as assistant vice president. In 1972 he and his wife purchased Mandy’s Flowers in Olean. It has been a family-run business, growing to include Tuxedo Junction and The Engraving and Embroidery Gift Store.
He was a member of the BPOE Lodge #491 in Olean and he enjoyed NASCAR and Buffalo Bills Football.
Surviving besides his wife are his mother of Olean, a step mother Helen Pordan of Kenmore, NY; one son Joseph R. (Sherry) Chamberlain of Allegany; two daughters Lisa (Larry) Armstrong and Amy (Tom) Hall, both of Olean; five grandchildren Alexia Chamberlain, Brandi Scull, Nathan Armstrong, Emily Hall and Tommy Hall; one brother Chuck (Marianne) Chamberlain of Salamanca; one sister Sandy (Jay) Fischer of Indiana; 1 great aunt Helen Agnelli of Salamanca and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father and a great grandmother Mary France.
At Mr. Chamberlain’s request, there will be no public visitation. Friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held Thursday (May 27, 2004) at 11:00am in Living Waters Church (formerly Rhema Christian Fellowship Church) 3036 W. State St. Olean. Rev. Michael Nolder, assisted by Fr. Gregory Dobson of St. Mary of the Angels Church, will officiate. The family will receive friends at a luncheon in the church fellowship hall immediately after the service. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
