Margaret A. Hickok
Olean, NY Margaret A. Hickok, of 3100 Cranberry Rd., went to God peacefully on Wednesday (July 14, 2021) surrounded by her daughters at the Olean General Hospital.
Born October 17, 1933 in Punxsutawney, PA, she was the daughter of J. Sheridan and Helen J. Dougherty Henretty. She was married to Frederick DeVere Hickok, Jr. who predeceased her November 25, 2003.
Margaret graduated from St. Bernard High School in Bradford, PA in 1951 and then studied for 3 years where she attained her RN degree from Bradford Hospital School of Nursing.
She first worked for the Bradford Hospital and then part-time for the former St. Francis Hospital. She later worked as an RN at the Olean Medical Group for 16 years prior to her retirement in 1989, when she and her husband happily retired to Leesburg, Florida.
Margaret was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels in Olean, where she was a volunteer on the weekly collection committee. She was formerly an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Leesburg, FL where she volunteered at the Parish Gift Shop. She and her husband were also volunteers at the Leesburg Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed playing Mexican Train Dominos and watching the Buffalo Bills football games with her friends at Cranberry Court Apartments in Olean.
Surviving are her 4 daughters, Denise (Bob) Patterson of Greenville SC, Betsy (Jim) Burns of Durham, NC, Susan (Larry) Sorokes of Olean and Jeanne (Jim) Finch of Allegany; 9 grandchildren Ken Sanner, Stephen Sanner, Patrick Burns, Jeffrey Burns, Katie Burns, Adam Sorokes, Emily Sorokes, Olivia Doherty and Maeve Finch; 5 great grandchildren Devere Sorokes, Charlie Sanner, Audrey Hurd, Oscar Doherty and James Burns, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her beloved husband, she was predeceased by 4 brothers James Henretty, Robert Henretty, William Henretty and Frederick Henretty and 2 sisters Jeanne Henretty and Mary Lou Cauley.
The family will be present to receive friends on Sunday, July 18, 2021 from 2-5pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday (July 19, 2021) at 10am at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. Rev. James Vacco will be the celebrant, assisted on the altar by Deacon Matthew Wenke. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery, Bradford, PA.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels in Olean, NY, or to the charity of your choice.
