Obituary of Evelyn Thurston

Olean, NY Evelyn Thurston, 95, passed away peacefully Thursday (July 1, 2021) at the Olean General Hospital with her family by her side. Born March 24, 1926, in Humphrey, she was the daughter of Alfred and Blanche Bart Thurston. Evelyn attended the Linwood Center for over 20 years and also attended the Golden Olympics. She enjoyed animals, bingo, and going to bible study. Evelyn found great joy in singing her favorites and clapping along to bands that would play. She had an infectious personality and brought joy to all that knew her. She is survived by a sister Eva Bell Wilber of Olean; a niece Tracy Burnett of Allegany; 2 great nephews Robert Burnett of Olean and Douglas ( Shavonne) Burnett of Allegany; and several great-great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by 3 special friends Amanda Whiteman who cared for her at Intandem, Pam Stillman who cared for her at Linwood , John and Lenore Lounsbury who cared for her for many years and all those who cared for her with Intandem at her home on the West Fall Road. Friends will be received on Wednesday (July 7, 2021) from 11am – 1pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. A service will immediately follow at 1pm in the funeral home. The Rev. John A. Lounsbury will officiate. Burial will be in Five Mile Cemetery Memorials as desired may be made to the Cattaraugus County SPCA, 2944 Olean-Hinsdale Rd., Olean, NY 14760.
