Obituary of DeWaina A. Grimes

DeWaina A. Grimes Allegany, NY DeWaina A. Grimes, 67, of 3617 Five Mile Rd. passed away Sunday (June 27, 2021) at the Olean General Hospital. Born April 11, 1954 in Olean, she was the daughter of Franklin E. and Mildred C. St. Clair Grimes, Sr. DeWaina always considered herself to be “in school” and enjoyed learning and working alongside her friends at SubCon Industries in Olean. For over 35 years she lived in a supervised environment with Intandem (formerly the ReHabilitation Center) in either Olean or Allegany. She loved to walk, pick flowers “up on the hill” (Knapp Creek), and being in the woods. She also enjoyed frequent walks for a cup of coffee. She loved to cook with her caregivers, watch movies, and liked dancing. She will be remembered fondly by her family, and her friends and caregivers at Intandem. DeWaina leaves behind a sister Pamela Zeigler of Olean, and 2 brothers Harold Grimes of Connecticut and Franklin (Betsy) Grimes, Jr. of Limestone as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister Rachel Sanchez. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation Thursday (July 1, 2021) from noon to 2pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. A funeral service will begin at 2pm in the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Gerald Piper. Burial will follow next to her parents in McKean Memorial Park in LaFayette, PA.
