Ernestine R. Buchanan
Olean, NY Ernestine R. Buchanan, formerly of Olean, passed away Tuesday (December 8, 2020) at the Bradford Manor, Bradford, PA.
Born February 27, 1926 in Eagle, she was the daughter of Ernest W. and Dorothea M. Dennis Powell. She was first married to Royden Burch in 1948. She later married Norman Buchanan on March 27, 1971. He passed away in 1990.
Ernestine was a 1945 graduate of Friendship High School. She first worked at the former Daystrom Furniture Co. in Friendship as well as Acme Electric Co. She then worked for Fisher Price Co. in East Aurora until her retirement.
She loved playing cards, doing word search puzzles, walking, and she was an avid bingo player.
Surviving are 2 daughters Linda Burch of Hinsdale and Jessica Buchanan of Olean; a step son Garry Buchanan of Bradford, PA; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; 3 siblings Arleen Sharp of Maine, Robert Powell of West Clarksville and Barbara Woodin of North Carolina;1 brother-in-law Earl Strutevant of Albion and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to both husbands, she was predeceased by 2 sons, James McAllister on December 15, 2014 and Larry Burch on March 18, 1965; a daughter Beverly Morris on December 3, 2020; a grandson William Slocum, Jr. in 2012; a great grandson Justin Sage in 2011; 2 brothers, infants Herbert and Raymond Powell and 6 sisters Ida Tuttle, Pearl "Shorty" Coyle, Charlotte Woodin, Onalee Sturtevant, Joyce Sturtevant and Velma McGrath.
Family wishes to thank the staff at Bradford Manor for the great care they showed to their loved one.
The family will be present to receive friends for a memorial gathering on Wednesday (December 16, 2020) from 1 to 2pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. A memorial service will follow at 2pm in the funeral home. Rev. Tyrone Hall will officiate.
