Obituary of Katherine J. Schuman

KATHERINE “KAY” J. SCHUMAN “Loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother” ALLEGANY – Katherine “Kay” J. Schuman of the West Branch Road, Allegany died Saturday July 31, 2004 at the Olean General Hospital following a short illness. Born in Olean on January 15, 1940 she was a daughter of Bernard and Katherine Driscoll Karl. On August 17, 1974 in Ischua, NY she married Thomas J. Schuman who survives. Kay was a graduate of Allegany Central School, class of 1957. She completed training for American Airlines in St. Louis in 1957. She was employed at Midway Airport in Chicago; She later was employed as a substitute teacher at the Hinsdale Central Schools and had various bookkeeping jobs. She enjoyed traveling, NASCAR, ceramics and needlepoint. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Maria Pittman of Allegany; two grandchildren Ryan and Jailynn of Allegany; a brother David (Audrey) Karl of San Diego, CA; a sister Anne Pittman of Allegany; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Jillion Pittman. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother in law, Thomas Pittman. Friends will be received on Monday (August 2, 2004) from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Casey Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Rd., Olean. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday (Aug. 3, 2004) beginning with a prayer service at the funeral home at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bonaventure Church at 10:00 AM. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM will be celebrant. Burial and committal services will follow at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. Memorials may be made to the Allegany Fire Department or to the American Cancer Society.
