John K. Hubbard, Sr.
Olean, NY-- John K. Hubbard, Sr. of 742 Grandview Ave. died Tuesday (August 31, 2004) in the Cuba Memorial Hospital.
Born September 18, 1915 in Smethport, PA he was the son of Simon William and Ida Kearney Hubbard. On August 30, 1941 in Smethport, PA he married Jane Frances Megivern who predeceased him February 2, 2003.
Mr. Hubbard was a longtime resident of Smethport, PA and had lived in Olean since 1972. He earned a BSME degree from Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, PA where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. He first worked during WWII as an aeronautical engineer as an airplane builder for the US Navy. From 1945 until his retirement in 1973 he was employed in Olean for Dresser Clark Co.
He was a member of the Dresser Retirees Association, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He was also a member of the Bartlett Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf, and was a member of the former Allegany Valley Sports Car Association. He was looking forward to the birth of his next great grandchild.
Surviving are one daughter Sheila Hubbard of Santa Cruz, CA; one son John K. Hubbard, Jr. of Maiden, NC; five grandchildren; two great grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a granddaughter; a sister Julia K. Wagner, a half brother James Hubbard and a half sister Margaret Duffy.
There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held Saturday (September 4, 2004) at 12:30pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Msgr. William Wangler, pastor of St. John’s Church in Olean will officiate, assisted by Rev. Steve Beatty, pastor of United Pentecostal Church in Olean. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Cuba Memorial Hospital 140 W. Main St. Cuba, NY 14727.
