Theresa M. Leaskey
Bath, NY – Theresa M. Leaskey, formerly of Salamanca and Seven Lakes, NC died peacefully Thursday morning (December 6 2018) at Steuben Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Bath.
Born January 15th, 1928 in Olean, she was the daughter of Joseph and Sophia Kwiatkowski. She married Andrew D. Leaskey on June 30, 1947 at Transfiguration Church in Olean.
Mrs. Leaskey spent most of her life in Salamanca and worked in the City Comptroller's Office for many years. She was also co-owner of Leaskey's Liquor Store prior to retiring in Seven Lakes, NC where she continued to hone her artistic abilities at Sandhills Community College.
She was very active in the Salamanca community. She was a past President of the local Zonta International chapter, a member of the Western NY Association for Retarded Children and she was a member of the Salamanca Positive Action Committee (SPAC) that organized the very first Falling Leaves Festival.
She is survived by two sons David (Colleen) Leaskey of Southern Pines, NC and Joseph (Ann) Leaskey of Hammondsport; five grandsons; David (Melissa) Leaskey, Timothy (Jennifer) Leaskey, Kenneth (Tracy) Leaskey, all of Buffalo, Joshua (Sarah) Leaskey of Philadelphia, PA and Jacob (Stacey) Leaskey of Leesburg, VA; six great granddaughters, Merin Leaskey, Hanna Leaskey, Maggie Leaskey, Ava Leaskey, Abigail Leaskey and Charlotte Leaskey, and one great grandson, Benjamin Leaskey.
She was predeceased by her husband Andrew D. Leaskey and one son, Mark A. Leaskey.
Family and friends will congregate at Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home at 3128 W. State Rd, Olean on Wednesday (December 12, 2018) from 9:00am to 9:30am at which time a prayer service will be held. A funeral service will follow at 10:00am at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. The Rev. Romulo Montero will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Association for Retarded Children.
