Olean, NY Dorothy J. Messer of 340 Route 16 South, passed away peacefully Monday (September 3, 2018) at the Bradford Ecumenical Home, Bradford, PA, surrounded by her loving family.
Born December 19, 1932 in Bradford, PA she was the daughter of Edward and Flora Jones Wills. On November 10, 1956 at the former Sacred Heart Church in Knapp Creek she married William C. Messer who survives.
Dorothy had been employed as a bookkeeper for both the Southern Tier Realty Co., Inc. as well as the Olean Times Herald Credit Union. She enjoyed raising her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She also liked to sew, bake, square dance, crochet and knit.
Surviving in addition to her husband are 5 children Patty (Bob) Greene of Chittenango, Joan (Doug) Robertson of Horseheads, Don (Jean) Messer of Harrisville, Marsha Kernan of Syracuse and Tom (Barb) Messer of Olean; 13 grandchildren T.J. (Kate Killeen) Greene, Christopher (Jenny) Greene, Mary Rose Greene, Liz (Carlos) Rodas, Steffie (Ravilj) Robertson, Allie Robertson, Brian (Tara Stanley) Messer, Jessica (Richard) Toussant, Justin (Cherica Hall) Chesbrough, Joe (Kylie Cota) Chesbrough, Eddie Kernan, Jimmy Kernan and Brad (Rose Kennedy) Messer; 2 great grandchildren Maddox Toussant and Lilly Jo Cota; 1 sister Nancy Wheeler of Olean and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by 2 brothers Don Wills and Gordon Wills; a son-in-law Edward Kernan; a sister-in-law June Messer and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jim and Peg Messer.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 4-7pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. A funeral service will be held Friday (September 7, 2018) at 11am in the funeral home. Jeffrey J. Brook will lead the service. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
