Olean, NY-- Victor J. Ozogar of 211 N. 19th St. died peacefully Saturday (September 25, 2004) in his home after a long struggle with cancer.
Born August 19, 1931 in Olean, NY he was the son of John and Rose Washington Ozogar. On December 19, 1958 in Wichita, KS he married Jean M. Anderson who predeceased him July 15, 2000.
Mr. Ozogar was a 1948 graduate of Olean High School and in 1994, at the age of 62, received an associates degree from Jamestown Community College. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in the Korean War from 1951 until 1955. He resided in Kansas from 1955 until his return to Olean in 1965.
He had been employed for many years for Henkel, Inc., formerly Hysol Co. in Olean prior to his retirement on January 1, 1997.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church, the Hinsdale American Legion Post #1434, and he coached Little League Baseball for many years. He loved to research genealogy and he researched and had published an article of interest concerning Olean’s history at the turn of the last century. He will be remembered as one who enjoyed his family, his friends, and the Olean community.
Surviving are three sons Edward (Samantha) Ozogar of El Paso, TX, Michael (Laura) Ozogar of Olean and Victor W. (Tami) Ozogar of Olean; two daughters Sherry (Calvin) Weeks of Olean and Sandra (Todd) Aiton of Charlotte, NC; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (September 28, 2004) beginning with a prayer service at 9:00am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary of the Angels Church or to Homecare and Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760.
