William G. Papasergi

Allegany, NY     William G. Papasergi of 3974 Route 417 passed away peacefully at home on Thursday (March 1, 2018) in the loving presence of his family.

Born August 20, 1934 in Olean he was the son of Domenic Leo and Mary Theresa Anzivine Papasergi.  On June 9, 1956 at St. Bonaventure Church he married Shirley Ann Foster who survives.

Bill was a 1952 graduate of Olean High School and later served with the Service Company of the 8th Engineer Battalion, US Marine Corps Fleet Force from 1954 to 1957.  He worked most of his career for the City of Olean Waste Water Treatment Plant, retiring in 1999 as senior operator.

He was a life member of the Allegany Engine Company where he served for 7 years as the secretary/treasurer, and then an additional 8 years as the assistant secretary/treasurer.  He was proud to have his 3 sons and a grandson serve the department as well.

He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892.  He enjoyed golfing, bowling and reading and was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, NY Yankees and St. Bonaventure Basketball teams.

Surviving besides his wife are 5 children Maria Mousaw of Columbia, SC and William (Sherry) Papasergi, Dominic (Cheryl) Papasergi, Michael (Tammy) Papasergi and Irene (Sherm) Smith, all of Allegany; 15 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister Mamie Anderson and a brother Guy Papasergi.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean.  A prayer service will be held Monday (March 5, 2018) at 9:00am in the funeral home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30am in St. Bonaventure Church.  Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant.  Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery with full military honors being accorded by the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team.
