Willard R. Falk
Olean, NY Willard R. Falk, 91, a resident of 901 W. Henley St. for over 56 years, passed away Friday (September 29, 2017) at the Bradford (PA) Manor where he had been living since February of 2017.
Born September 25, 1926 in Roulette, PA he was the son of Martin A. and Susan Snyder Falk. On November 28, 1952 in Coudersport, PA he married June A. Rickey who predeceased him March 12, 2013.
Mr. Falk was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served during WWII from December 1944 until July 1946. He continued his service with the Naval Reserves for 12 years and maintained a longtime membership in the American Legion. He worked since 1951 at the American Olean Tile Co., retiring in 1991.
He liked music, especially Country Western. He also played trumpet and taught himself the piano. He also enjoyed playing the accordion and the organ for "self-entertainment" and for relatives. In his younger years he was an avid deer hunter.
He is survived by his daughters Martha Burr and Marcia (John) Baire, both of Olean; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins, especially his cousin Lewis Snyder of Olean who was raised with him as a brother.. He also leaves behind many friends and neighbors who will greatly miss him.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a brother Vernon M. Falk in 1996.
Friends will be received on Tuesday (October 3, 2017) from 1-3pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Services will begin at 3pm in the funeral home with Rev. Jonathan Colby, pastor of the Allegany Baptist Church, officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife of 60 years in Allegany Cemetery, with full military honors being accorded by the U.S. Navy and the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team.
