David "Butch" Johnston

Taberg, NY     David "Butch" Johnston, 73, passed away suddenly Tuesday (May 9, 2017) at Rome Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

David was born March 28, 1944 in Olean.  He served his country proud in the Navy and Air Force for a total of 21 years in active duty.  On January 31, 1965 he married Rita Marie Johnston who predeceased him June 28, 2013.

He loved racing, ice cream, his trusted canine companion Clayton and most of all, "his family."

Surviving to always carry his memory in their hearts are his two children Terri L. Johnston and Melissa Hickernell, both of Rome, NY; his beloved grandchildren RJ, Jessica, Bryan and Jesse; his great-grandchildren; his siblings Karen, Cindy, Tina, Pat, Laurie, Johnny and Neil and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Saturday (May 20, 2017) from 10am to noon at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean.  Services will begin at noon.  Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery with full military services being accorded by the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team.
