Obituary of John W. Orcutt

John W. Orcutt Allegany, NY John W. Orcutt of 4115 S. Nine Mile Rd. passed away peacefully Friday (July 1, 2016). Born December 25, 1919 in Olean he was the son of Albert and Marie Sharp Orcutt. On January 23, 1943 in Norfolk, VA he married Mary "Jackie" Welsh who predeceased him February 21, 2008. Mr. Orcutt was a graduate of Olean High School and of Westbrook Commercial Academy. He served with the US Navy during WWII. He most recent employment was with the City of Olean where he worked as the City Clerk for 15 years prior to his retirement. He was a former longtime member of St. John's Church in Olean and more recently had attended St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany. He was an avid amateur ham radio operator. Surviving are 4 children Sharon (Charles) Knowland of Penfield, James Orcutt of Olean who was his beloved caregiver, Richard (Kevin Whitley) Orcutt of Grants Pass, OR and Deborah (Daniel) Hoffman of Farmington; 4 grandchildren Timothy, Kristen, Joshua and Caitlin; 2 great grandchildren Ethan and Addison and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 2 brothers Albert Orcutt and Norman Orcutt. There will be no visitation. Private graveside services will be held Tuesday (July 5, 2016) at St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Rev. Ed Sheedy, pastor of St. John's Church, will officiate. Full military honors will be accorded by members of the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
