Obituary of Jack Fitch

Jack Fitch Olean, NY Jack Fitch of 649 Prospect Ave. passed away Monday (March 21, 2016) at The Absolut of Salamanca where he had resided since January. Born November 15, 1942 in Olean he was the son of Raymond and Marion Van Dixon Fitch. Jack was a 1960 graduate of Olean High School and later served with the US Air Force from 1964 to 1965. He first worked for the former Clark Brothers, now Dresser Rand and the Blue Bird Taxi Service. He moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he worked for the Jacksonville Transit Authority. He held various positions including transit bus driver, dispatcher, and later dispatch supervisor before retiring as the assistant director. After moving back to Olean he worked as a school bus driver for a short while. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #616 and the Olean American Legion Post #530. He participated in various dart leagues, billiard leagues and card leagues. He was first married to Millie Atherton with whom he had a son Daniel (Kelley) Fitch of Northglenn, CO. He was later married to Ruth Rossignol with whom he had 2 daughters Rose (Harry) Gayton and Ann Langdon and a son John Fitch, all of Olean. He was last married to Beverly Schmidt with whom he had a son Matthew (Amanda) Fitch of Jacksonville, FL. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by 2 brothers Charles "Charlie" Fitch and Gerald "Jerry" Fitch and 1 great granddaughter Melanie Langdon. Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Friday (March 25, 2016) at 11:00am in the funeral home with full military services being accorded by the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery Veterans Circle of Honor, Olean. Memorials may be made to Olean High School Thirst Project Club, 410 W. Sullivan St. Olean, NY 14760.
