Dale I. Finch
Allegany, NY-- Dale I. Finch of 106 N. 3rd St. died Friday (October 25, 2002) in The Waters of Allegany Health Care Center after a brief illness.
Born August 23, 1947 in Olean he was the son of Richard and Vivian "Bea" Boser Finch. On November 12, 1966 at St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany he married Marie Steiger who survives.
Mr. Finch was a resident of Allegany most of his life and had been employed by the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department for 23 years. He later worked as a bus driver for Allegany-Limestone Central School and also as a driver for Midland Asphalt Co.
He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and was active as a member of the Allegany Fire Department, the NYS Juvenile Officers Association and was a social member of the Allegany American Legion. In 1988 he was named the State of NY American Legion Police Officer of the Year.
Surviving besides his wife are 1 son Dennis (Lisa) Finch of Augusta, KS; 1 daughter Debra (Robert) George of Ceres, NY; 2 grandsons Brett Finch and Tristan Finch; 1 granddaughter Gia George; 4 brothers William (Mary Jane) Finch and David (Maureen) Finch, both of Allegany, James (Gloria) Finch of Olean and Gerald Finch of Middletown, DE and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 1 brother Ron Finch and 1 sister Judy Finch.
Friends will be received on Saturday from 7-9pm and Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Monday (October28, 2002) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Fr. Gregory Brennan, OFM and Fr. Richard Flaherty, OFM, both of St. Bonaventure University, will be the principal celebrants. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany Fire Department or to the Deputy Sheriff’s Association Scholarship Fund 301 Court St. Little Valley, NY 14755.
