Sondra Lundy Schaeffer
Conway, SC--Sondra Lundy Schaeffer, 69, a former resident of Olean, died of cancer at her home in Conway, South Carolina on Saturday (November 20, 2004).
Born April 4, 1935 in Olean, she was the daughter of the late George and Kathryn(Hogan) Lundy.
Mrs. Schaeffer graduated from Olean High School. She received her B.S. degree from The State University of New York at Geneseo, her M.S. degree from St. Bonaventure University and completed additional Doctorate work at Cornell University and the University of Rochester.
Mrs. Schaeffer taught school in the Olean Public School system. She served on the faculty at S.U.N.Y. Geneseo, Geneseo, N.Y. and Trenton State University in Trenton, N.J. She was named "Who's Who in American College Women." Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Schaeffer was the Director of Education-juvenile division-for the State Court of New York. She served as the Director of Giving for the United Way for the Myrtle Trace, S.C. community. She served on many volunteer committees in her community including the Conway Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and the St. James Catholic Church Ladies Guild.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel of Conway, S.C.; a son Jeffrey and his wife Mary of Glen Allen, VA; a daughter Susanna Schaeffer Smith and her husband Gregory of Boyds, MD; and her grandchildren, Anna Kathryn Smith and Daniel Gregory Smith both of Boyds, MD.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00am in St. James Catholic Church in Conway. Friends will be received on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean. Graveside services will be held Friday (November 26, 2004) at 11:00am in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
